Culture
Turkey offers the visitor a rich and colourful culture with a unique blend of East and West. Turkey is a secular, constitutional republic established in 1923, following the fall of Ottoman Empire after World War I. In spite of its close relations with the east, Turkey exhibits a great degree of western influence. 6 percent of the world's Muslim population lives in Turkey. Though 99 percent of Turkish population is Islamic, the constitution has proclaimed Turkey as a secular state. The people are given complete freedom to choose their religious beliefs. However, Islam exerts a great influence over the culture and life at Turkey. A moderate sort of Sunni Islam remains the unofficial religion of the state.

Special Attractions
Istanbul - Our tour begins with a drive across the magnificent Bosphorus Suspension Bridge, which divides the continents of Europe and Asia. Then, we continue to Camlica Hill, the highest point of Istanbul. From here you can take photos of the stunning panorama before you. A short drive from here is the summer palace of the Sultans which is located in a small village by the Bosphorus called Beylerbeyi. Beylerbeyi Palace is a mansion built under the influence of Western architecture in the 19th century and we will take a guided tour of its extravagantly decorated interior. After lunch visit the Egyptian Spice Bazaar which is full of the mystical aromas of various spices and colourful shops selling fruit, vegetables, flowers and fish etc. Next we board our boat for a cruise along the Bosphorus, the waterway separating the two continents of Europe and Asia. As we travel, you will have the chance to see the European style palaces of the Ottomans and the palaces of Dolmabahce and Beylerbeyi, in striking contrast to some of the modern villas that line the shores.

Antalya - The principal resort of the Mediterranean is the port city of Antalya which is an attractive setting with shady, palm lined boulevards and a picturesque old quarter called Kaleici which has narrow streets and wooden houses next to the old city walls. Take a walk through Kaleici visiting the Three Arched Hadrian Gate. Continue to Perge - an important city of ancient Pamphylia. Visit the Theatre noted for the marble relief work of its stage and its three sectioned memorial fountain. Then visit the city gate flanked by two lofty towers, a long colonnaded way that was once lined with shops and mosaic pavements, the Agora and buildings that once housed the Baths and Gymnasium. Lunch is at local restaurant. Aspendos - dominating the site is the best preserved Theatre of antiquity seating 15,000. The Galleries, stage decorations and the acoustics all reflect the success of the architect. Close to the Theatre Basilica and Agora, see the remains of an aqueduct, which was one of the largest in Anatolia. The tour will end with the visit to Side, one of the best-known classical sites in Turkey and was an ancient harbour whose name meant 'pomegranate'. Side is a resort town on the southern coast of Turkey, near the villages of Manavgat and Selimiye , 75 km from Antalya.
